Description
The Water CTD provides a cost-efficient and long-lasting solution for monitoring both water quality and quantity. The device combines water level, temperature, and electrical conductivity (EC) measurements into one compact package, enabling simultaneous observation of hydrological status and changes in water quality.
The EC measurement adds valuable context to traditional level and temperature monitoring — revealing variations in mineral and salt content, identifying nutrient leaching in drainage waters, preventing excessive salinity in irrigation water, and supporting long-term water quality monitoring in restoration and research sites.
Measurement data is automatically transmitted to the SCI Portal, where it can be viewed and analyzed almost in real time.
Users can set alarm thresholds, triggering SMS alerts whenever limits are exceeded.
Through remote management features, users can adjust settings, monitor battery status, perform diagnostics, run firmware updates, and reboot the device without visiting the site.
The logger’s GPS functionality displays monitoring points on a map, making it easy to manage multiple locations simultaneously.
Applications and Benefits
EC measurement:
-
Detects changes in the mineral and salt content of ground and surface waters
-
Supports agricultural irrigation water quality control and prevents salinization
-
Reveals nutrient leaching in drainage waters and streams
-
Enables long-term water quality monitoring in restoration and research sites
General applications:
-
Groundwater monitoring in agricultural and forest areas
-
Wells and irrigation basins: prevents drying and overflow, ensures water availability
-
Controlled drainage wells and subsurface drains: supports flow regulation and detects blockages
-
Water utility groundwater zones: ensures raw water availability and compliance monitoring
-
Sub-irrigation pump control: automatic start/stop based on water level
-
Streams and ditches: flood risk forecasting and monitoring during extreme weather events
-
Restoration sites and dams: monitors water recovery and dam performance
